Final Belly Shots

I find it only fitting that I post the rest of my belly shots on my due date. That's right. Today's the day! Oh wait, Aiden is still snug as a bug in there! Honestly, today was the first day that I felt very confident I would not be meeting my son. I think it's pretty safe to assume I'm not a part of that 5% of women who actually have their babies on their due dates. I have a doctor's appointment on Thursday and if Aiden hasn't made his appearance by then, my doctor will schedule an induction for Sunday night, which would put me at giving birth on Monday. At least I have a finish line in sight! Here are the rest of my shots.

Dear Aiden

My precious little Aiden,

Your due date is officially 6 days away. I'm done with work and using this week before you arrive to get some last minute things done around the house. As much as I'm just dying to meet you, I'm also trying to enjoy these last few days with you in my belly.

I have wanted to be a mom for as long as I can remember. Two years ago, I went back to school to get my masters degree. Although your daddy and I were ready for you then, we decided to wait until I was done so that I could devote all of my time and energy to you with no other distractions. It was a hard two years, but I made it through and you were the sweet reward at the end when we found out you were growing inside of me! I remember the morning of July 2, 2010 so well. When I saw that plus sign on the pregnancy test, my heart started beating so fast I thought it might pound out of my chest with excitement. Your dad and I were thrilled beyond words.

We decided we would wait to tell everyone until I was 3 months along and you were strong and healthy. It was the hardest secret I've ever had to keep. We had our first ultrasound with you when you were only 7 weeks along. Although you were just a tiny little peanut, we could see your little heart beating strongly. It was incredible!
For the first time ever, I found myself wishing summer away because I wanted to tell the whole world that we were expecting you! That day finally came, and shortly after, I felt you move inside of me for the first time. Most people describe this feeling as a little flutter, but it was far from that. You either kicked or punched and I actually saw my stomach move! I was so excited. Your dad got to feel you do the same thing the next day. Ever since then, you have been so active. You do not like to be restricted by me bending over or sitting or laying in certain positions and you let me know it!

In October, we got to have another ultrasound. You had grown so much by this time and were already so cute! Although you were pretty stubborn about giving us a profile picture, you did let us know loud and clear that you are a boy! We were so excited! We went straight to the mall afterward and bought you your first little outfit. We also found out at this ultrasound that you were growing just as you should be and that all of your organs were functioning perfectly. We were very relieved to hear such good news!

Since this ultrasound was the day before our annual pumpkin carving contest, I decided to have a little fun and announce your gender and name on my pumpkin!

In December, we had another ultrasound and this time you gave us some great profile shots. Look at that little face. Absolutely precious! You were sticking your tongue out and swallowing. It was adorable.
So now, we're waiting patiently for your arrival. Your nursery is all ready for you and I dream of the day I get to hold you in my arms, see your sweet face, and smother you with kisses.

Aiden, I want you to know how much you were wanted and loved before you were even in my belly. It has been nothing short of a miracle to watch my body change as you grow. Every night, when your dad gets home from work, he spends some time rubbing my stomach and talking to you and you're always sure to give him some punches and kicks. He tells you about all of the fun things the two of you will do when you come. He especially can't wait to rough house and wrestle with you. You are such a lucky little boy to have such an amazing daddy who just adores you already. He can't wait to hold you in his arms.

I have loved every second of watching you grow inside of me and seeing my belly get bigger and bigger each week. I have cherished all of our time together, having you with me everywhere I go, talking to you, and watching you move around and feeling you roll, punch, and kick. I've never experienced anything like it. It has been truly amazing. So for these last few days before you arrive, I'm going to savor every last second of it.

I can't wait to meet you, little guy. I love you more than I ever thought possible already.

Hugs and Kisses,
Your Mama

Aiden's Nursery

We've finally put the finishing touches on the nursery so here are the pictures I promised. We had two projects we decided to do ourselves for Aiden's room. The first was to build a set of shelves that I actually saw in County Living Magazine in December. The directions were to buy a couple different sizes of the large tubes that are used to pour concrete in and then cut them to your desired length. Eric used his table saw to do this.

Then, you cut contact paper to put on the outside of them. We chose the wood contact paper.

After that, you attach all of them using nuts and bolts. Here's the finished product.
Pretty cool, huh? I have to give almost all of the credit to Eric. After putting contact paper on about two of these things, I was over it. It was a great reminder of why I'm not a huge fan of do-it-yourself projects. Eric, however, loves them. Thank god I married such a handyman!

Our second project was to stencil elephants on the walls. My self proclaimed creative problem solver of a husband decided it would be a piece of cake to make our own stencil. He took a picture of one of the elephants on Aiden's bedding and then we blew it up and took it to my classroom where we could project it. We traced the elephant onto some butcher paper, and then cut it out so that we were left with a stencil.

Next, we hung the stencil on the wall, and Eric simply painted from the paper down onto the wall. I will be the first to admit, I was a critic from the beginning. I did not think Eric's plan was going to work. I was also happy to admit how wrong I was! The elephants turned out amazing!
Even Julia got in on the fun!

One of my favorite parts of watching Eric work is when he sits back and enjoys the finished product. Nice work, Daddy!

Here are the rest of the shots of the nursery.
Now all that's missing is the baby. My due date is one week from today, so I'm hoping he'll be here sometime next week! We can't wait to meet our son!

Handmade Gifts

One of the most overwhelming parts of pregnancy for me has been all of the beautiful handmade gifts people have given me. These gifts are amazing to me for a couple of reasons. First, I am so NOT crafty, so when someone with creative juices that flow freely creates something for me, I'm in complete awe. Also, even though I'm not crafty, it's not hard to see the insane amount of time it takes to make a handmade gift. It's truly is a labor of love! I wanted to make this post to highlight some of the incredible gifts people have made for our little family.

At Christmas, Jessi gave Aiden his very own advent calendar. The Thompsons have a special tradition of an elf bringing Emma little gifts in her advent calendar, and I've expressed to Jessi many times that I can't wait to do the same thing for my kids one day. This gorgeous, felt, hand-sewn calendar is the result. Flove.

Leni not only took the time to knit washcloths, she actually knit shapes into them. This picture doesn't really do them justice, but the yellow one has a duck, the purple one has a sailboat, and the blue one has a bottle. Love these!

Even though she has a baby of her own at home, Megan somehow finds the time to have "crafternoons." Check out this nursing cover she made! If you've ever seen the ones they sell in stores, you know that this is an exact replica. So much that I actually thought it was store bought! Unbelievable!

Katie Mac buys wood frames at craft stores, chooses fun scrapbook paper, and then cuts it to cover them. Then she sprays something us craft-tards don't know about on top so it stays in place. She asked me if I'd like her to do the same with letters for Aiden's room. It took me about one second to take her up on her offer. Look at the finished product! I love them!

One of my fellow triathletes, Danielle, makes the softest, most adorable stuffed animals you've ever laid your eyes on. They're called Comfy Cozies. Knowing the theme of Aiden's room was elephants, she surprised us with this creation. I know. It couldn't possibly be cuter, right?

My dear, out-of-this-world crafty friend, Carina, knit a beautiful blanket for Aiden. Yes, she's in her 20's and knows how to knit (and how to do about a million other things)! My favorite detail on the blanket is the ribbon she weaved through the knitting. Pretty incredible!

Jessi's sweet mom, Linda, put herself to work making the thickest, most durable burp rags ever. They are soft cotton on one side and terry cloth towels on the other. She even embroidered Aiden's name on some of them! What a thoughtful gift! The best part about these is that they're completely practical, but so adorable at the same time. Here are just a couple of them.

Finally, Jessi made me this adorable sign to hang on my door for when Aiden is asleep so that people know not to use the doorbell. This girl never ceases to amaze me. She sews, cooks, bakes, sands wood, paints...the list is endless. Could this possibly be cuter? I think not!

I'm certainly not trying to downplay any gift I've received that wasn't handmade. There were so many things I needed to be ready for Aiden's arrival, and I'm beyond grateful for every single item we've been given. I just wanted to give a special shout ouy to those who have gone way above and beyond and given us truly special gifts that I treasure!

Another Awesome Shower

Last Monday, Sarah and Jamie threw Katie and I a joint baby shower. The theme was bed and bath and they did a really great job decorating for it!

I wish I would have been better about taking pictures at this shower! Thanks so much to everyone who came and spoiled us with some pretty incredible gifts!
5 Preggos!

And of course, thank you a million times over to our gorgeous hostesses! You girls went to so much work to put this shower on and it was above and beyond!
